Jonathan

Jonathan is the son of Saul in Samuel 1 in the Hebrew Bible. The relationship between Jonathan and the young David is one of the most prominent biblical bonds. Jonathan is introduced as a courageous warrior, and later it becomes clear that he was well loved and respected by his fellow soldiers. The Bible states that “Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself,” despite the fact that David would take over his father’s rule in his place. Jonathan opposed his father Saul by protecting David from him on a number of occasions. Jonathan died in battle alongside his father and brothers. Jonathan is considered “a model of loyalty to truth and friendship” by all religions.
