Elijah

Elijah, or Elias, was a prophet in the Kingdom of Israel during the reign of Ahab, according to the Book of Kings. He is said to have defended the worship of Yahweh over that of Baal, as well as raised the dead, called fire from the sky, and lived by the generosity of ravens. The Book of Kings states that he ascended to heaven in a chariot of flame and horses, in the place of dying. Elijah is believed to be the harbinger of the messiah in many religions, as it is said in the Book of Malachi that he will return “before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord.”
