Abigail
Abigail is considered by many to be one of the seven female prophets. The name Abigail means “her father’s joy” or “fountain of joy”, and the text describes her as intelligent and beautiful. Abigail was the wife of Nabal, but following his death she married David. The passage writes that Nabal was ungrateful towards David and his men, yet Abigail brought food and drink to them in secret with hopes of discouraging David from taking revenge. She reminds him that G-d intended to make him a “lasting dynasty”, which some claim to have been a prophetic statement, while others say that she was simply intelligent and could sense the “drift of history”. Abigail became the mother of one of David’s sons.
